Many segments of the worldwide energy market can benefit and profit from the use of EcoEnergy Solutions’ technologies. These technologies enable energy users to adapt quickly to changing regulatory and market conditions. For instance, emulsions provide a solution to increased NOx emissions from the combustion of biodiesel fuels. EcoEnergy Solutions also has a technology that fills a void created by Orimulsion’s withdrawal from its global bitumen emulsion business, allowing for the combustion of heavier oils in boilers.

The following is EcoEnergy Solutions’ portfolio of primary products and services in specific applications:

Engines

We produce emulsions of diesel fuel that have been proven in engine dynamometer testing at the Southwest Research Institute to reduce NOx emissions by up to 15 percent and PM emissions by up to 58 percent. EcoEnergy Solutions has access to the master license that covers the only two diesel emulsion products verified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and registered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Fuel emulsions are the only low-cost solution to controlling NOx and PM pollution with the same technology. Currently, we are working on optimization of combustion processes and combination of emulsions with diesel engine retrofit technologies to achieve greater reductions of these criteria pollutants – giving government agencies and diesel fleet operators more powerful technologies to simultaneously control ozone and particulate pollution in urban areas.

The U.S. has a renewable fuel standard mandating that 2.78 percent of on-road fuel be renewable. In addition, California has set a goal of reducing on-road use of gasoline and diesel fuel to 15 percent below 2003 levels by 2020.

At the same time, biodiesel blends – blends of diesel fuel and biofuels – have been shown in EPA and other studies to increase NOx emissions. EcoEnergy Solutions has targeted that problem with an emulsion that lowers NOx emissions from biodiesel blends while preserving the reductions in PM pollution from the use of biodiesel blends.

Industrial Boilers

We combine our emulsions of No. 6 fuel oil with tuning of boilers to reduce both NOx and PM pollution from industrial boilers that are often located in communities sensitive to these emissions. We have partnered with an East Coast fuel oil distributor to help meet the needs of end users such as hospitals, universities and industrial production facilities to operate cleaner boilers.

Coupled with boiler tuning, our emulsions of No. 6 fuel oil have been shown to result in boiler efficiencies and fuel savings, because emulsified fuels keep boiler surfaces cleaner over time and promote better heat transfer.

Power Plants

As developing countries seek to increase electricity production for growing populations, many of them are turning to heavier residual oils for use in utility boilers. Our emulsified residual oils – which improve the flow and emissions profiles of heavier oils – will help these countries meet increasing electricity demands with products that can be used more cost-efficiently and with less pollution. EcoEnergy Solutions’ ability to emulsify heavier oils allows power plant operators to consider base feed-stocks such as tar sands and waste oils for boiler use, because emulsions reduce the viscosity of these products, permitting them to be transported without heating to high temperatures.
